Irish Open Preview & Best Betting Odds

2021 Irish Open

The 2021 Irish Open gets underway today and we take a look at the latest betting odds on the eagerly-awaited tournament.

Rory McIlroy has only missed two of the last fifteen Irish Opens and the tournament favourite for 2021 tees off at 1pm this afternoon alongside defending champion John Catlin and Tommy Fleetwood.

When Tiger Woods triumphed in the WGC-AmEx Championship at Mount Juliet in 2002, McIlroy was just a young spectator at the event and he will be playing in warm but cloudy conditions this afternoon. The Ulsterman is odds-on to get the better of Catlin and Fleetwood in the opening round of the competition.

This will be McIlroy’s first appearance at the Irish Open since 2018 and the world number 10 claims that he is starting to see the benefits from the work that he has been putting into improving and revitalising his game. Having won in 2016, the County Down native enjoyed a large share of the lead on the last day of the US Open last month before fading from contention on the back nine.

Nevertheless having enjoyed some big crowds in the US in recent weeks, McIlroy will be in for a completely different experience in this tournament with a limited number of spectators allowed at the venue.

McIlroy will be just one of a very strong field in Kilkenny this week with major winners Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington all competing for top honours in their home tournament.

2021 Irish Open Betting Tips

As far as betting is concerned, an appealing three balls wager option is Richard Bland who tees off at 1:10 this afternoon. Bland has been enjoying some blistering form with victory in the British Masters followed by a third-place finish in Denmark. Having led after two rounds in the US Open, he seems excellent value against Thomas Pieters and Graeme McDowell.
